I’m sure you have been here. In a place between ‘yet to come’ and the ‘not yet.’ Don’t worry – you’re not alone.
As a woman who has been called to teach and preach, however been given a skill applicable in the marketplace – I face the daily dilemma of which hat will I wear. And right now, it’s more of a moment by moment decision. I find myself in the middle of unemployment and here, every moment I am doing my best to discern God’s voice between the emotions of the past due bills flooding my inbox and having hope in His promises foretold. He’s given me vision and promise, and even more so – the anointing and favor to complete it. But I find myself confused on what’s next, contemplating whether or not I will even be able to fulfill all the things He’s called me to do – or better yet, faithfully steward all the many hats He’s called me to wear. And it’s in one of these moments of crying out to Him, He takes me to this scripture.
“I’m sure now I’ll see God’s goodness, in the exuberant earth. Stay with God! Take heart. Don’t quit. I’ll say it again. Stay with God.” Psalm 27:13-14 MSG
A daughter, sister, friend, disciple, evangelist, writer, corporate entrepreneur, marketing expert, young adult leader, and future wife, mother, speaker, and author. Those are the hats that I currently wear and some that God’s promised I will wear – but my friends, how do we do this? Your list looks different than mine and that is exactly how God intended it to be. We all can’t do the same things or act the same, because then how would the complete mission of the Kingdom of God be able to be completed? So make your list, who has God called you to be and what has He called you to do – do you know?
I encourage you to do this, to make it a priority to figure YOU out. The intricate, beautiful, masterfully created parts of you that no one else could mimic or try to be – THOSE are the gifts and the divinely appointment destinies that make you, uniquely crafted for such a time as this.
You may feel weary, defeated, undone, and emotionally/physically/mentally spent – but maybe it’s because you’re trying to be someone God hasn’t call you to be or do something that isn’t yours to do. As women, we want to be ‘superwomen.’ Marvel may be the expert in superhero movies, but women (from the beginning – thanks, Eve) are the ones who have always wanted to ‘do and be it all.’ But my friends, the fact is – that was never our calling or the destiny given to any of us – let alone, just one of us.
You were made for a specific purpose completely and wholeheartedly different, yet still uniquely wonderful from me. We are both needed. We are both necessary. We are both in this together.
The first part in being able to ‘take heart’ is to take an inventory of your heart.
Where are you at?
Where are you headed?
Where have you been?
Who are you?
Who do you need to become?
Who have you been?
Ask yourself these questions – write it all down. Give yourself the opportunity to take heart and then may the Holy Spirit meet you in these moments and give you clear, direct, and helpful direction on what you can do RIGHT NOW to take heart. And it is from this foundation, that God will be able to empower and strengthen you to not quit.
“Wisdom is found on the lips of the discerning, but a rode is for the back of one who has no sense. The wise store up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool invites ruin.” Proverbs 10:13-14
